Next to Olaf

Digital Artwork
2024

Next to Olaf is a digital artwork from my series “Next to VIP”, in which I digitally combine my Fast Sketches with well-known personalities. In this picture, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz takes center stage in an elegant suit, accompanied by two characteristic figures from my Fast Sketches series. On the wall next to Olaf is the handwritten sentence: “Cool suit, isn’t it?”

This image alludes to the gap between formal political representation and the fleeting, spontaneous nature of art. While Scholz embodies the epitome of political respectability and formal appearance, the figures from my sketch series stand for creativity, speed and immediacy. The handwritten slogan “Cool suit, isn’t it?” adds a humorous note and invites the viewer to reflect on the contrasts.

The point of the picture lies in the juxtaposition of structure and spontaneity, formality and creativity. It invites the viewer to reflect on the different roles that people play in society and how these roles clash and interact with each other. “Next to Olaf” unites politics and art in a digital dialog and questions the boundaries and overlaps of these two worlds.
This image is a newly created free work of art that challenges the conventions of political and artistic representation.
